A purported news report circulating on the internet about the death of one Yetunde Balogun who was alleged to have been killed by her mother-in-law was fake.
The news report stated that the deceased wife ate food poison which led to her death.
One of the purported reports published by The Eagle Online read:
“How mother of two was allegedly poisoned by mother-in-law in Ilorin”
“One Yetunde Balogun has died after she was allegedly poisoned by her mother-in-law in Ilorin.
“According to sources, Balogun died after her husband’s mother allegedly poisoned her using snipper (dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate)
“A former course mate, Oyeronke Oluwakemi G-Fadele noted that Balogun was a graduate of Linguistics from the University of Ilorin.
“It was gathered that the incident took place at Ara Oje Compound, Ilorin, Kwara State.
“However, the course mate of the deceased made some revelations that suggested what led to the death of Balogun.
“The course mate said the deceased has two beautiful daughters with her husband.
“She wrote: “A course mate of mine from the University died yesterday and it’s alleged that she was poisoned by her mother-in-law.
“Her name is Balogun Yetunde and she was a mother of two beautiful girls.
“It is said that her husband is a Muslim from Ilorin and that her in-laws had never been cool with her or the fact that she was involved with their son.
“They only had an introduction.
“Yetunde until her demise stayed in Ilorin while her husband was shuttling Abuja and Ilorin.
“Yetunde had on several occasions left their home to go back to her parents or relatives due to some marital issues of which she had spoken to some of our course mates and other friends about, unknown to her husband and his people.
“Yetunde is dead and according to reports, she was poisoned. How? Why? All these we are still trying to ascertain as the narrative seems to be different from the husband’s side.
“The husband never put a call through to her family that their child was dead.
“It was her cousin who came bearing an item which Yetunde had requested from home that got to know and alerted the family.
“A twist to this narrative says she took snipper, meanwhile reports say her children are also in the hospital due to the fact that they also shared in the food their mother ate.
“We want justice for Yetunde as we her course mates are just getting the whole pieces of this puzzle together.
“Up until this moment, no family member of her husband’s has formally paid Yetunde’s family a visit and access had been denied her older sister to her corpse.”
According to the Informant247 report, an empty container of DD force was seen in the deceased room when the Police visited.
It was further reported that investigation is ongoing to unravel the mysterious death.
A close family source who also spoke under anonymity, said, “He is my friend and her husband is my husband’s friend. She wasn’t poisoned by her mother-in-law, rather she drank DD force insecticide due to consistent misunderstandings between her husband and his relatives.
“The deceased had issues with her husband the morning before her death and threatened to take her life. However, the quarrel was settled by one of the husband’s elder brothers before she swallowed the poisoned.”
The Informant247 further learnt that the deceased bought the insecticide herself from a nearby store.
Alhaji Araoje, an elderly member of the family, speaking on the incident, said, “Yetunde keeps seeking forgiveness from her husband on their way to the hospital and pleaded for her children’s wellbeing when she is gone.”
A video posted by Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, also revealed that the deceased went to buy a DD force from a trading store in her area.
Furthermore, in the purported reports, it was stated that the children also ate from the poisoned food and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
But it was confirmed that the two children were hale and healthy in a viral video seen on social media.
Verdict
