Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25 across the Nation.
The country’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has subsequently declared the All Progressives Congress APC candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner.
Background
Tinubu polled the highest number of votes, 8,794,726, almost two million votes more than his closest challenger — former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,984,520 votes.
The candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, finished third in the race with 6,101,533 while Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Kano State Governor and candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), finished fourth, with 1,496,687 votes.
Developing
Major candidates, including that of PDP and Labour Party who lost out in the poll have rejected the results announced by INEC. They have claimed that the election was marred by irregularities. Some of them have also vowed to challenge the victory of the APC candidate in court.
Claims
The Fact check247 discovered that some news mediums reported that the APC candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was to pay a visit to the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar last Wednesday.
Findings
The Fact check247 discovered that two news mediums named the Whistler and NNN published a report on the claim that Tinubu visited Atiku after the election.
The Whistler titled its own reports as
“Tinubu Visits Atiku After INEC Issued Him Certificate Of Return As President-Elect”

While the nnn titled, its own reports“Tinubu’s Surprising Move: Visiting Rival Atiku After Election”

Verdict
Fact check247 understands that Tinubu may have decided to visit Atiku, but the headline cast by the news websites were misleading.
According to their respective claims, the visit which was expected to be done on Wednesday to Atiku will also be extended to the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Fact check247 also believes that Tinubu has set up a reconciliation committee to meet the major contestants that lost out in the presidential election.
Also, Tinubu has not revealed his intentions to visit the duo of Atiku and Obi.
