Claim

A photo many social media users claimed to be the goalkeeper of Cote D’Ivoire has been circulating online after the final of AFCON where the Ivorians defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 to win the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations on Sunday.

The said photo has a goalkeeper tightening a voodoo otherwise known as ‘juju’ in Nigeria parlance around his waist.

Many believe that the voodoo had aided his performance and has prevented the Nigerian team from scoring.

Verification

The Informant247 fact check team took a deep search of the photo using some fact check tools and discovered it’s not the Ivorian goalkeeper who was in goal at the final of the AFCON.

The ivorian goalkeeper at the AFCON is named Yahia Fofana and his name was boldly written on his back during the competition.

The goalkeeper in the picture being circulated has a jersey with inscription of ASC Jaraaf at the back of his jersey. The club is a Senegalese side.

Verdict

The photo circulating around as goalkeeper of Cote D’Ivoire at the AFCON final is false.
