Images of Aliyu Sani Madaki, a House of Representatives member representing Dala Federal Constituency under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have surfaced online, showing him with stacks of cash amounting to millions of naira in his living room.
The image, which went viral on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), shows him with two other individuals counting the cash.
This comes after the lawmaker recently announced his departure from the movement led by former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
There were however doubt about the authenticity of the images, prompting FactCheck247 to verify the image. Abduljalil Yakubu, along with several others here and here, believes the images were photoshopped or doctored.
X user @__yellow posted two photos: one with the stacked naira notes and another without them. In the caption, he claimed that the first image was original, while the second was photoshopped.
Another image posted by a social media influencer, X user @Verydarkblackman, shows House of Representatives member Aliyu Sani Madaki, representing Dala Federal Constituency, sitting with a laptop behind stacks of naira notes. The same image also appeared on Facebook.
Another X user, @RakaFatima, shared two different photos of Madaki—one showing him sitting behind the stacked naira notes and another showing him presenting a motorcycle key.
A video posted by @ReporteraNews shows Madaki counting the stacked naira notes with two other people seated with him. This video was also shared on Facebook.
THE CLAIM
The images showing House of Representatives member Mallam Aliyu Sani Madaki, representing Dala Federal Constituency, with bundles of naira notes in his living room are doctored.
THE FINDINGS
Findings by FACTCHECK247 show that the photo with cash in his living room is authentic.
FACTCHECK247 observed that a video, from which the picture was taken, was uploaded five times on the TikTok page of Mallam Aliyu Sani Madaki (@AliyuSaniMadakiTV), who represents Dala Federal Constituency.
FACTCHECK247 also noted additional content on his TikTok page showing activities related to empowerment, including the distribution of motorcycles and other items.
THE VERDICT
The claim that the picture was doctored is FALSE. The picture of him with cash stacked in his living room is genuine.
