For years, a widely held belief in Southwestern Nigeria claimed that eating mangoes before or after consuming garri could cause severe health issues. This myth, rooted in a 1986 incident involving poisoned garri, was revisited by FactCheck247, an independent subsidiary of The Informant247. The team consulted experts to dispel this long-standing misconception.

In November, FactCheck247 joined forces with a coalition of fact-checkers across Nigeria to combat fake news during the Ondo Governorship Election.

Among others, viral claims such a fabricated image linking MC Oluomo to Peter Obi were factchecked. The team also uncovered false narratives, including AI-generated videos and doctored political content that misled the public.

In addition to addressing misinformation, FactCheck247 tackled critical issues like Okitipupa’s decade-long power outage and raised awareness about cybercrime in Osun State.
